On March 26, 2026, during the week of celebrations marking the 140th anniversary of Juana Colón’s birth, we held the discussion forum “From Juana Colón to the Present: The Situation of Women in Contemporary Puerto Rico.” Our guests were Tania Rosario Méndez, who spoke to us about the “Current Situation and Challenges for Women in Puerto Rico Today,” and Eva Ayala Reyes, who spoke to us about the “Situation of Women in the Labor Movement in Puerto Rico.” The event concluded with reflections and comments from Dr. Lizandra Torres Martínez. It was a morning filled with remembrance, reflection, and struggle as we envision the Puerto Rico we seek to build—a more equitable and just Puerto Rico for all people.
